David's Role:

David played Diver Dan, a fisherman and cook. He has a wordliness that Laura thinks she can relate to, but there's something mysterious about him as well.

He runs a cafe in a boat shed, where he also offers boat rides. He takes the kids to and from school on a motorboat.

Trivia:

David won a Silver Logie (Australian television industry award) for Most Outstanding Actor. He was nominated for an AFI (Australian Film Institute) award for the Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Television Drama.

David appeared in 15 episodes of the series, leaving after the first two in series 2. Initially he departed after series 1, but the network and the producers felt the audience felt ripped off by that. So David agreed to film to appear in the two additional episodes and give Diver a proper farewell.

He was in Hawaii filming Molokai: The Story of Father Damien when the show aired in Australia. He had no idea of the excitement over his character, until he was asked to do an interview for The Sydney Morning Herald.

David and Sigrid Thornton got along very well. She described David as "an absolute joy to work alongside -- everyone on SeaChange would agree he's a delight, always good-natured, good-humoured, a lot of fun."

Diver Dan is based on co-writer Andrew Knight with added touches by co-writer/creator Deb Cox. David joked about the connection between Diver and Andrew by saying, "But Andrew's a slob."

Deb Cox initially thought David was too middle-class and young to play Diver, but she changed her mind after his screen test.

Cassandra Magrath (Miranda Gibson) said in an interview that David "is wonderful and funny and deserves to be a sex symbol."

Sigrid was a regular cast member on the TV series one of Us David appeared in a two-part episode titled Russian Roulette.

John Howard was a regular cast member on the TV series one of Us David appeared in an episode.

Kerry Armstrong was in Come in Spinner and was in the Police Rescue episode The cosmic Lightbeam.

Brett Swain (Griff) was in Killing Time.
